Aaron has been the headlining artist-in-residence at the Black Fox since the place opened just over 5 years ago, and the Black Fox Ensemble of Oren Levine (piano), Percy White (bass), and Will Stephens (drums) has been backing him up for over 4 years together.

Blow, Kenny, blow!: Rittenhouse on trumpetPlease join us for First Saturday (this November 1st) for a night of jazz at the Black Fox Lounge (downstairs) — featuring the “DEW” Jazz Trio and our special guest trumpeter Kenny Rittenhouse, well-regarded for his work with the U.S. Army Blues band and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, as well as jazz educator at George Mason, among many other things.

Stay the whole time, because you’re getting an extra hour of sleep!

Rounding out the band are the outstanding Ed Hrybyk on bass and the inimitable Dave Kane on piano.  Also with yours truly (Will Stephens) on drums.

Music begins at 9:30pm and goes until 12:30am.  No cover!

Saturday 10/4/14: Vocalist Rochelle Rice joins the DEW Jazz Trio @ Black Fox Lounge

Please join us for First Saturday (this October 4th) for a night of jazz vocals at the Black Fox Lounge (downstairs) — featuring the “DEW” Jazz Trio and our special guest vocalist Rochelle Rice, named by the Washington CityPaper as Best Vocalist in their December 2013 “Jazzies.”   Rounding out the band are the outstanding Ed Hrybyk on bass, Mark Meadows on keys, and Will Stephens on drums.

brad_lindePlease join us for First Saturday (this September 5th) as we bid farewell to Summer with some cool jazz at the Black Fox Lounge (downstairs) — featuring the “AEW” Jazz Trio and our special guest  sax player Brad Linde, well-known performing artist and co-founder of the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra.  Also featuring the City Paper’s 2013 “Best Jazz Pianist” Allyn Johnson on piano, subbing in for our friend and fellow monster player Dave Kane.  Rounding out the rhythm section is the outstanding Ed Hrybyk on bass.

Saturday 6/7/14: Seth Kibel and the WED Jazz Trio at Black Fox Lounge!

SethKibelJoin us this First Saturday (June 7th) as we kick into Summer with some swinging jazz at the Black Fox Lounge (downstairs) — featuring the “WED” Jazz Trio and our special guest sax/clarinet/flute-player Seth Kibel, a multi-WAMMY-winning musician in jazz and klezmer and a former Jazz Artist-in-Residence at the Strathmore.

Rounding out the rhythm section are excellent artists Dave Kane on piano and Ed Hrybyk on bass.

Music begins at 9:30pm and goes until 12:30am.  No cover!  However, please abide by the Black Fox Lounge’s 2-drink minimum!

We will be having a drink special in honor of the Pride Parade earlier that evening: $5 house vodka (instead of $7)!  Happy Pride!

Update: Allyn Johnson joins Geoff Reecer with Ed & Will Saturday 5/3/14 for “First Saturday at the Fox”

Update: Allyn Johnson will now be joining the band on piano this Saturday!  Allyn has been named Best Pianist, among other things, by the Washington CityPaper’s annual “Jazzies” awards.

So please come out to the Black Fox Lounge for this “First Saturday” in May (the 3rd) as guitarist Geoff Reecer joins the band for a special night of swinging jazz.  Geoff can be seen all around town, including playing with the renowned U.S. Air Force “Airmen of Note” big band.

Rounding out the band is excellent musician Ed Hrybyk on bass.

Saturday 4/5/14: Victor Provost and Allyn Johnson join at Black Fox Lounge

Victor-ProvostThis Saturday eve, join us with special guests Victor Provost (steel pan) and Allyn Johnson (piano) at the Black Fox Lounge for a night of jazz to ring in the first real Spring weekend and the Cherry Blossoms.  Victor and Allyn are regularly noted as top players in town, including each being named “Artist of the Year” by the Washington CityPaper’s annual “Jazzies” (Victor in 2011 and Allyn in 2013).  Top-notch bassist Ed Hrybyk rounds out the band, along with yours truly on drums.
